Here's hoping someone picks up the baton and does a reissue that does the series proud.rocket9https://www.blogger.com/profile/09087000546889258072noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-32360494981609170062009-02-09T10:14:00.000-05:002009-02-09T10:14:00.000-05:00Tony Dayoub:Hey there! David Lynch is probably my fave filmmaker (with Michael Mann a very close second).

I've been working on a Mann book for a few years now and hope to complete after PUBLIC ENEMIES comes out. We'll see. I'm really excited to hear that you're working on a book about CRIME STORY. That is something I would be VERY interested in reading.

And yes, I love James Ellroy's stuff, in particular is LA Quartet and his recent USA Underworld series... can't wait for the last installment!

I hope to see you around here more often and I will also link up your site to mine. I come to check out your site as a result of Film for the Soul's Dardos award , and it turns out you have a posting to one of my favorite series of all (looks like you're a Twin Peaks fan also, how cool is that). What's even better is that I see you're researching a book you're writing on Mann, one of my favorite filmmakers, and I'm beginning to research a book on Crime Story I hope to publish.

The fact that you're an Ellroy fan wraps it all up in a neat little bow (although I'm only a casual fan of his).

I'll definitely be visiting (and linking to) your site more often.Tony Dayoubhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04632329277519635858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-13387036882751396202009-02-06T13:56:00.000-05:002009-02-06T13:56:00.000-05:00Keith:I'm so glad you enjoyed this post! I had no idea you were such a fan of this show but considering you love or all things retro I guess that shouldn't surprise me.

I can remember when the show first aired and watching it and liking it a lot more than MIAMI VICE which, of course, was much popular. I was a teen when it was on. I never knew much about the details about what was going on through behind the scenes, etc. Thanks for filling me in on that. This show really helped get me on the path I am today with my love the 60's, etc. It opened up a whole new world to me. I loved it. The show was amazing from the acting to the music. It was also the show that introduced me to Dennis Farina. He's definitely not a conventional star. I've liked him ever since. Have a great weekend. Cheers!Keithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14832710800680256206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-22063727932344629702009-02-06T09:28:00.000-05:002009-02-06T09:28:00.000-05:00Thanks for stopping by and the kind words! I reall...Thanks for stopping by and the kind words! I really dug Anthony Denison's work in this show as well... he more than held his own against Dennis Farina and had even better hair ta boot! I don't know why his character disappeared during the course of the season. I do know that once it got into ratings trouble, the network did a lot of tinkering including making more stand-alone episodes instead of sticking with the original serial idea so maybe Denison got lost in the shuffle as a result.

And I loved Al Kooper's music for the show. I wish they would release a soundtrack CD.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-82847166106603564482009-02-06T00:40:00.000-05:002009-02-06T00:40:00.000-05:00Oh my god. You're wonderful.
I was going to post something
about Al Kooper, since his birthday was the 5th as well, and
I was just checking up on Crime Story postings on the web.
What an underrated show! I must
add that the real star of this
show was Anthony Denison. Nothing
against Dennis Farina, but that last period, where Ray Luca disappeared for a while, was pretty
ho-hum. Do you know why that happened? I thought maybe it was
a salary dispute. Overall this
show was Michael Mann's greatest
achievment. The story lines,
the great casting. The costumes
and music (Al Kooper) And the
great guest actors- the episode
with Debby Harry was great.
That was the point in the story
arc before Ray completely loses it.
Abel Ferrara! Patrica Fields!
Andrew Dice Clay! I'll stop now.COUNTRY AND BLUES FANhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08878458082353696812noreply@blogger.com
