Raquel has a nude scene not in the script? Rear projection showing in some scenes? I notice you like the qualities of the novel and say they're in the film which was drastically changed from the books. Doc was never a baseball player and Blaidsdell, not Suzy, suggested he try a beer milkshake. The Seer and the Narrator interrupted the continuity and mood of the film to make the audience feel distant instead of relating to the characters.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-70354246208397973862017-01-23T13:52:26.520-05:002017-01-23T13:52:26.520-05:00I believe that the monatary settlement involved a ...I believe that the monatary settlement involved a percentage of the gross and the studio buried the film in distribution in an effort to limit Ms. Welch's financial award. It is the reason why it hasn't been put into the DVD format. The movie industry never forgets and always punishes the star if it can. This movie is one of my all-time favorites. The jury found that the studio purposely made up the criticism of her so they could fire her without paying off her contract. Nevertheless, the firing pretty much marked the end of her film career. I will never forget the feeling that washed over me 15-20 minutes into viewing at the theater back then that, "this is a GREAT movie". Classical music, jazz, coastline and especially John Huston's voice. All that as a framework or canvas for the character development. Outstanding. I still watch my VHS. They only reason I still have a player!

I wonder if you have a source to find out where they shot the exterior of the roadside restaurant where he took her to dinner. I assume the interior shots were soundstage but I want to find that place if it still exists as part of a pilgrimage. Or am I the fine wine?

Seriously, this looks like a film worth checking out and how can you go wrong with Steinbeck as source material?

I often found some of John Sayles films (Matewan, Eight Men Out) had a Steinbeck-like quality.
Cheers J.D.SFFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04256589316922398158noreply@blogger.com
