It is utterly fascinating and drenched in atmosphere. Henry is such a messed up and tragic character. He seems to be a victim of the industrialized world he lives in. The sound effects in the film are amazing, all of that clanking, hissing, clogs turning, and all those other sounds closing in around Henry like a cage of sound. No doubt that Jack Nance was perfect in this roll. That confused, lonely ,and sad look he gives makes me want to reach out and rescue him in my arms! Poor guy is trapped in his own personal hell. I tell you, that deformed baby-thing is evil, as is the guy in the planet pulling the levers. The baby mocks Henry by laughing at him when Henry sees his sexy neighbor getting it on with another man. I believe Henry is more than likely a schizophrenic, he has all the characteristics. The most disturbing part to me is the climax, when Henry tries to kill the baby and its head gets really big and comes at him. My favorite scene is when Henry is making out with the lady next door in his bed that has become a liquid pool and they sink down into it. Very beautiful and horrific images abound in this. It is an amazing and profound experience.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15624572108071334415noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-91762679236378934832013-04-24T11:51:52.693-04:002013-04-24T11:51:52.693-04:00Great comments! It is the representation of one man's POV like it was ripped right out of his fevered imagination.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-58331312845471020492013-04-23T18:18:29.512-04:002013-04-23T18:18:29.512-04:00The key is to avoid watching this the way one watc...The key is to avoid watching this the way one watches a Hollywood movie. Don't expect fight scenes and adrenaline. There is no hero to the rescue. The guy doesn't get the girl. You won't laugh out loud at pratfalls. And don't expect causality. Just because something happens doesn't mean that the most logical action will follow.

Instead, watch this as if you are having a dream. And don't act like a curious little brat. (Why did this happen? Why did that happen? Where do babies come from, Daddy?) Simply let the images and sounds wash over you. Accept this odd reality they way one accepts illogical images while sleeping. And don't worry about solving the puzzle. You can puzzle over the film long after the credits have rolled.

And even when you accept film as dream, you might still hate it. Maybe it's too bleak, gross, depressing, or it just doesn't resonate with your personal dreamspace. That's okay. Just don't expect it to be a great Hollywood film. Or even a good film. Or even a film. Simply expect it to represent David Lynch's dream. And if it tickles your imagination or view of the world, you might just come back to this fountain again and again.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-90168558182457502022012-12-03T09:06:06.130-05:002012-12-03T09:06:06.130-05:00Anon:

A few years ago Lynch released a beautiful transfer on DVD from his own website. It has never looked (or sounded) better.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-23742354901035538632009-04-28T09:35:00.000-04:002009-04-28T09:35:00.000-04:00Hey J.D. I think I was the only one of my buddies that actually liked it. It definitely launched a great career.
