Well said! Yeah, I do love some tradit...le0pard13:

Well said! Yeah, I do love some traditional holiday movies but there's always room for darker ones too. Good call on THE ICE HARVEST. I really like that film as well... a very underrated neo noir.

I agree that there is a lot of fun to be had watching Spacey, Davis and Leary bounce off each other - such extreme characters and then when the mother character arrives, it adds a whole new dynamic that is pretty funny. I remember the ads for the film placed an emphasis on Leary and his acerbic comedy but there is a lot more going on in this film. I'm glad you enjoyed the review!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-56657067971503447452009-12-21T13:29:48.414-05:002009-12-21T13:29:48.414-05:00J.D., you brought up such a good one for the holid...J.D., you brought up such a good one for the holidays. While I do appreciate and enjoy the traditional fare (for myself and my kids), there is that other side of me that has to partake, on the side away from family, some of the darker meat on the plate (just finished another great viewing of THE ICE HARVEST). THE REF is another one, and I still have time to do it before my greater family commitments arrive and eat everything up!

I love these three leads in this. Spacey, before he that great 1995, Davis (she's always great), and Leary is Leary (and bring blue collar so well, like in Rescue Me). It very much has a keen understanding of what can make family so bad, and so good. And, I agree this was marketed poorly. It's a lot better than people thought then. I think it's gotten a whole lot better in following now, though. Thanks very much for bringing this review, especially at this time of year, J.D.le0pard13https://www.blogger.com/profile/09421175808461787862noreply@blogger.com
