The family had previously been affiliated with a religious group/cult where it was clear River had inappropriate sexual relations with older women. I know River and his parents allegedly had a more positive involvement in his sex life later on, but maybe that specific line of dialogue was at the edge and had more a traumatic meaning to them all.Ro-Beast Rolliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13461980537490993760noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-5654995080882525392008-12-04T09:26:00.000-05:002008-12-04T09:26:00.000-05:00elgringo:Thanks so much for stopping by and for th...elgringo:

Thanks so much for stopping by and for the kind words. Yeah, the $30 is a bit steep to be sure. It is a cool little film. I'd like to see him put together a proper DVD release with an audio commentary, etc.

The studio version is a waste of time, let me tell ya. And yes, I was a bit surprised at River Phoenix's parents' reaction as well. It's a shame that Phoenix didn't stick up for Richert more but then he was just a kid at the time. But obviously they stayed friends over the years as they appeared together in MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO.

Thanks again.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-84840149595775499362008-12-04T01:51:00.000-05:002008-12-04T01:51:00.000-05:00I just learned so much about a film I'd never hear...I just learned so much about a film I'd never heard of before. I'm really glad I read this write-up. I checked out his website, and he's selling both versions for 30 bucks. A bit too much cash for me right now, but if Netflix ever picks up the director's cut, I'll be all over it.

I'm not going to bother with the studio version, at least not until I see the film in the way it was supposed ot be.

I'm surprised that River's parents cared so much about that line. I don't know why that stuck out to me so much. They approved him saying the line in the first place while they were (most likely) watching him act on set. They approved their son reading the script with the line in it. I don't know, just seems like parents trying to make trouble for a less-than-worth-it reason.

Thanks for such a great write-up.

Scott
He-Shot-Cyrus.blogspot.comelgringohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16856962746924193109noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-33160990464008118922008-12-02T09:36:00.000-05:002008-12-02T09:36:00.000-05:00Moviezzz:Thanks for stopping by! Yeah, the director's cut is very different in terms of tone and atmosphere and definitely worth tracking down.

Keith:

Thanks for the kind words. I agree that the studio version was nothing to write home about but Richert's new cut is excellent and restores his original intentions.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-5557216650402790842008-12-02T09:29:00.000-05:002008-12-02T09:29:00.000-05:00Hey JD. I liked it, but it wasn't some film I cherish. It was pretty forgettable. I haven't seen it in years. I had a crush on Meredith myself. I wouldn't mind seeing this new edition.Keithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14832710800680256206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-64353682646527239452008-12-01T13:51:00.000-05:002008-12-01T13:51:00.000-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.TALKING MOVIEzzzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11621046844665110326noreply@blogger.com
