Yes, it comes close to Malick. I love the image of Bob splashing his face with water on the morning of the killing. The water is slowed down in such a way that it looks more substantial than water. It seems to elongate a moment at a point when time must be moving painfully slowly for Bob Ford.Richard Bellamyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12397053921647421425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-8955777672215866142009-09-30T09:28:55.771-04:002009-09-30T09:28:55.771-04:00Tommy Salami:

The imagery in this film is something else. I have not seen BRIGHT STAR but am really curious to check it out. Jane Campion always makes thought-provoking films. Speaking of filmmakers who try to vibe on Malick's style, I really thought that THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD came close to capturing the way Malick photographs nature. I love its imagery. I show this film every year to my A.P. English class and they write an analysis of the film's imagery. Jane Campion's new Bright Star shows a similar treatment of imagery, but she does not succeed in making her use of imagery as hypnotic, meaningful, and memorable as Malick's.Richard Bellamyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12397053921647421425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-44859766783608652202009-09-29T22:46:56.728-04:002009-09-29T22:46:56.728-04:00Great review of one of my favorite films. I felt it was high time that I tackled a film by one of my fave filmmakers Terrence Malick and this film is such a stunning cinematic achievement.

It is a shame about Linda Manz.
