I just sensed a reservation of a sort by you on this one.

And I'm sure visually it looks quite beautiful and I certainly can appreciate that, but I've seen some beautiful computer screen savers too ya know. : )

Thanks as always J.D. for your eloquent coverage on the reviews.
sffSFFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04256589316922398158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-25966445313643677822011-12-22T11:39:40.018-05:002011-12-22T11:39:40.018-05:00The Sci-Fi Fanatic:

While I do love the visuals and strong style I'm not in love with the film itself. I'm still trying to figure out how exactly I feel about it and probably need to watch it a few more times.

For me, the collaborations between Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean are hit or miss. I really love the work they did together on SANDMAN but this one felt like it could have been developed a bit more. Some great ideas and stunning visuals, which are worth a look. Be curious to know what you think of this one.

le0pard13:

I think you might dig this one. Thanks for stopping by.

The Film Connoisseur:

Yes, there are some fantastic moments in this film and I love the overall atmosphere. It really draws you into the world of the film and its inhabitants.

"This to me is a misunderstood film, I mean, this is is a purely artistic film made by an artist, it's strengths lie within its visuals."

Well said! I would agree that the film's strongest attribute are its visuals and it has a very painterly, artsy feel which I like a lot.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-7743910595301491672011-12-19T14:56:21.629-05:002011-12-19T14:56:21.629-05:00I'm one of the ones that loved this movie, yea...I'm one of the ones that loved this movie, yeah it's not the most exciting movie ever, but Fantasy films aren't action films. Still, there is a scene where Helena flies with those pigeon creatures that was pretty dazzling.

My favorite scene is the one where Helena gets transformed into "dark Helena", the use of music and visuals in that scene is awesome.

I wish something would have emerged from tha planned Dark Crystal sequel, but I guess we'll just have to keep on waiting for that one.

Great review! This to me is a misunderstood film, I mean, this is is a purely artistic film made by an artist, it's strengths lie within its visuals.Franco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-19993755162956754772011-12-17T19:55:40.604-05:002011-12-17T19:55:40.604-05:00Great spotlight on this, J.D. Fantastic in depth coverage by the way, but I didn't get a strong sense of where you stood on it personally.

Though, as visually stunning as it might be I still can't say I'm ethused in any way to see it.

Nevertheless, this is a visual medium and your exploration of the film as a visual production is more than clear. I just don't know if it's for me still.

Your analysis and dissection of the film is thorough, but did you truly enjoy it yourself?SFFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04256589316922398158noreply@blogger.com
