I guess I didn't mind these changes to the basic character traits of Superman as I'm not a hardcore fan of the character so those tweaks didn't bother me.

Steve Langton:

Thanks! Yeah, I'd be curious to read your thoughts on this film once you get a chance to see it. I am eager to revisit it on Blu-Ray.

Francisco Gonzalez:

Well, it wasn't the first time Superman killed someone. He actually does away with Zod and co. in SUPERMAN II but it is done a pretty clean and innocuous way while MAN OF STEEL makes it up close and personal, which has upset a lot of people. I feel like the screenwriters painted Superman into a corner so that he really didn't have a choice. If he hadn't killed Zod, he would have just tried again and again to kill off the population of Earth. The Phantom Zone was no longer an option so I can see why they went this route.

Brent Allard:

Thanks for the comments! I agree partly with what you're saying. The film certainly has its flaws, no question about that, but I think it works more than it doesn't.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-3436349014577113262013-06-26T13:11:40.804-04:002013-06-26T13:11:40.804-04:00I agree with you that it's the best thing Snyd...I agree with you that it's the best thing Snyder's done yet. It got a lot of things right and the fight scenes were the best I've seen. Unfortunately it had too many logic problems to sustain the drama and I didn't think the tone really suited Superman at all. I just wrote it up myself if you want to get my more detailed thoughts.INDBrenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11606473452389713844noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-841866239167133772013-06-21T12:43:24.868-04:002013-06-21T12:43:24.868-04:00Without a doubt the best superman to date, agree w...Without a doubt the best superman to date, agree with you that Snyder learned from Syngers mistakes, they just did the polar opposite, they gave the people the Superman they wanted, a good natured ass kicker.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Though there's a certain dark side to this Supes, I mean, I think this is the first time they show Superman killing someone, and so dramatically too. What say you about this my friend? Superman becoming a murderer? Superman has killed in the comics before...I think he actually kills Zod and his two henchmen with Kryptonite, but no one sees it because it happens offworld, still, we'd never seen it in film.

True Zod was going to kill a family, but maybe he could have knocked out Zod or used some other way to stop him? True, Supes didn't enjoy killing, in fact, he was angered which is why he screams like a madman....Franco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-84367060358860892892013-06-21T11:38:02.595-04:002013-06-21T11:38:02.595-04:00Over the years, I've only had the slightest in...Over the years, I've only had the slightest interest in the Superman series but Snyder's installment as director rather got me fired up, together with the reported 'darker edge' to proceedings. Now, your beautifully written review has me champing at the bit to see it, although we don't have a cinema in our town so Blu-ray it is.
Steve Langtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00759586159893673244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-43002857918397492072013-06-21T09:03:06.822-04:002013-06-21T09:03:06.822-04:00"The choice he makes is what has stirred up t..."The choice he makes is what has stirred up those that feel Goyer and Nolan have betrayed one of the basic underpinnings of the character, but I think that it gives the movie a bit of complexity... It should be interesting to see where the filmmakers take Superman from here with the inevitable sequel."

Exactly. Every generation gets the Superman it deserves. And this is a post 9/11 Supes, one that reflects our prevailing American values right now in that he might be putting security ahead of safety without even realizing it. I believe they're setting up a rational motivation for why a more complicated Luthor might want to do away with Kal-El altogether.Tony Dayoubhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04632329277519635858noreply@blogger.com
