Where that was all bombast and operatic, CARLITO'S WAY is more thoughtful and introspective.J.D.https://www.blogger.com/profile/11823190634186509982noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-23876832030776902072018-10-04T10:04:02.852-04:002018-10-04T10:04:02.852-04:00LOL. He needed a hit after RAISING CAIN and despite his claims that he was a hired gun of sorts on this he really made it his own.J.D.https://www.blogger.com/profile/11823190634186509982noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-48013376145227795652018-04-30T22:47:18.917-04:002018-04-30T22:47:18.917-04:00J.D., as always, a masterful thinkpiece about a fi...J.D., as always, a masterful thinkpiece about a film that should be reconsidered by and large. In my opinion, "Carlito" is one of De Palma's greatest achievements, a thoughtful turn on the gangster film. Carlito is to the criminal underground what Willie Loman is to traveling salesmen, both looking at their lives and wondering what they could do to make it worth remembering, worth living. It took courage for De Palma to craft a film of this kind, not going to the usual gangster touchstones. It is as much akin to Malick as it is to Scorsese, introspective in full. Your article, most definitely, makes me want to watch it again and remember how fantastic De Palma is. The film community should be extolling his virtuoso from on high, giving him the respect he so rightly deserves.

Impeccably done, Mr. Lafrance!VellyGrrlhttps://twitter.com/VellyGrrlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-49798837079629903642018-04-28T18:06:39.277-04:002018-04-28T18:06:39.277-04:00I love this film as I think it's one of De Pal...I love this film as I think it's one of De Palma's best films. In fact, I remember Luis Guzman talked about working on the film and recalled that it was tense early on as De Palma was trying to find his footing. Then one day when De Palma was directing Guzman, Guzman said "Brian, I don't act. I just do it". De Palma paused and then said, "OK, everyone else act and Luis is just gonna do it" as everything became smooth sailing after that as Guzman succeeded in making De Palma laugh and feel relaxed. thevoid99https://www.blogger.com/profile/03055459287396592446noreply@blogger.com
