I do think that they are very well made pieces of entertainment - entertaining and engaging but certainly not everyone's cup o' tea that's for sure.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-35428373822259065922011-03-15T20:48:39.202-04:002011-03-15T20:48:39.202-04:00J.D.
I can't say I'm much of a fan here, ...J.D.

I can't say I'm much of a fan here, but I really like none of the Oceans films. It's been a while since I've read anything on any of them, and I quickly became riveted to your work here, complete with the delineation of the film's critical reception. I gathered that you aren't a huge fan either, and understood well the divided reaction.Sam Julianonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-36701739852139521222011-03-13T09:27:09.622-04:002011-03-13T09:27:09.622-04:00thevoid99:

I wonder how long it took him to get that entire routine down? He's a very graceful guy and that scene is definitely a stand-out in the film.

Brent:

Hah. I enjoyed your comment about Damon. Not a big fan? I agree that O12 is the stronger film but I probably watch O11 more so go figure. But I like the ambition and scope and complexity of this film. And it looks great. The use of lighting is something else.

le0pard13:

Yeah, I wasn't crazy about O12 when I first saw it but I've revisited it a few times and enjoy it more and more. It certainly is a worthy sequel to O11 and I like the whole European vibe, complete with David Holmes' great score.

I hope you give the film another shot.

Will:

Well, I would argue that O12 does go back in time and pay homage to older films, just ones of the European variety whereas O11 was obviously going for an old school Hollywood vibe. I do agree that O12 is less fun than O11 but I think that's on purpose. Danny and his crew are more on the backfoot on this one as Terry comes after them and they have to take off to Europe. So, it is a slightly darker film to be sure.

As always, thanks for your fine comments!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-37689150538974848052011-03-12T12:25:15.506-05:002011-03-12T12:25:15.506-05:00It's funny, when you say Ocean's 12 is a b...It's funny, when you say Ocean's 12 is a better film I AGREE but, I think, oddly, that makes it less successful. Oceans 11 (and 13) feel like perfectly crafted homages to older films and ideas. I feel like I'm going back in time with 11 and 13. With 12, I feel like I am watching a slick, complicated, well directed heist film. But there is no fun to it. I dunno. . .to each his own.

It was nice to see someone liking the aspects of the film that most people hated. Good job.Willnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-16898099890274580772011-03-11T13:50:08.529-05:002011-03-11T13:50:08.529-05:00Out of the three Ocean's, I've re-watched ...Out of the three Ocean's, I've re-watched 12 the least, but your fine review has really convinced me that I should give it another examination. My initial reaction was more like that of the second BACK TO THE FUTURE film -- and I now think that sequel is criminally underrated. I think there's a chance lightning is going to strike twice in this regard. It feels more like a Soderbergh film and it does what I think sequels should do in that it adds to the characters created the first time. Adding Vincent Cassel was a great choice and I think this was the film that made me actually not dislike Damon anymore.INDBrenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11606473452389713844noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-24216146112544191602011-03-10T22:41:21.031-05:002011-03-10T22:41:21.031-05:00For some reason, I liked this one more than the fi...For some reason, I liked this one more than the first. I don't know why. I think it's because everyone is having fun. It's a chance for everyone to be goofy.

My favorite scene in the film is Vincent Cassel break-dancing during the heist with that music. That's fuckin' awesome!thevoid99https://www.blogger.com/profile/03055459287396592446noreply@blogger.com
