Love this movie -- have seen it two dozen times, at least. I always laugh at every scene. Dude needs to lighten up. It was MEANT to be a raunchy flick.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-39189658028644471152014-08-20T20:36:41.235-04:002014-08-20T20:36:41.235-04:00Cool, nice rundown. Wasn't all that funny either.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-35305007901952255752013-04-18T10:28:12.095-04:002013-04-18T10:28:12.095-04:00Ned Merrill:

It's all pretty harmless stuff. And heh, it's funny you mention Nick the Dick appearing NIGHT SHIFT as I was just watching that film again recently and made the connection also! Small world indeed.

thevoid99:

Heh! Love your enthusiasm for this film. It does still hold up, doesn't it? And I couldn't agree more that THE HANGOVER is a pale imitation of BACHELOR PARTY. And yeah, Gary's scream is a good bit for sure. I think my fave is with Max the Mule. So tasteless!

Good to see yer also a fan of NIGHT SHIFT. Michael Keaton is so awesome in that film.

Brent Allard:

Oh, I agree, it's not a great film at all. More like a guilty pleasure. And yer right, a lot of raunchy comedies nowadays try to top themselves to be so shocking and it comes off as forced and desperate half the time. BACHELOR PARTY does with style and a lot of fun.

Stacia:

Good call on BACHELOR PARTY not really offending. It is all done in good fun and you get the feeling that the people involved were all in on it and having a blast making the film. Thanks for the great comments!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-85669427107856626082013-04-16T17:02:50.691-04:002013-04-16T17:02:50.691-04:00I never got around to seeing this one, it slipped ...I never got around to seeing this one, it slipped by me when I was a kid, and I still haven't given it a go, funny how so many of these 80's comedies had gratituous nudity in them! For me, Bachelor Party manages not to offend even when it tries to, because it's trying so hard. I end up laughing at their attempts to be as nasty as possible as often as I laugh at the jokes themselves. That's because the filmmakers -- hell, everyone on that set -- knew they were being offensive. Other raunchy comedies like Porky's had a whiff of wishing we were living in a time where these things weren't offensive. And it's just funnier when everyone is in on the joke, rather than when half the audience is itching to get into some moralistic "it's just a joke" argument.Staciahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05250238254417726987noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-45046035517801769472013-04-12T23:12:24.485-04:002013-04-12T23:12:24.485-04:00Nice look at this one! On some level I admire a movie that aims to be offensive for the sake of being offensive and fun. It seems like lately, the "raunchy" humor films work very hard for surface shock value, but then wedge in some sugar coating. Of recent films that's also the edge that "Hangover" has over the Apatow collection. I think The Hangover is just vastly overrated. It doesn't have the raunchiness or the insanity that Bachelor Party has plus, it lacked its heart in the form of Tom Hanks who is so genuine but also very funny. He needs to do more films like this.

Plus, how can any young boy not love the opening scene where Hanks' character let all of those Catholic school boys do all sorts of crazy shit?

Nick the Dick... "is this the footlong?" "And then some..."

My favorite moment is Gary's scream after realizing he had sex with a guy. Hey, he at least got laid. There's nothing wrong with having sex with dudes if the guy looked like Michael Fassbender.

Oh, I will also give a shout-out to Ned for Night Shift which I think is one of Ron Howard's better films. That was fucking hilarious!thevoid99https://www.blogger.com/profile/03055459287396592446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-57370503474602115852013-04-12T09:58:53.422-04:002013-04-12T09:58:53.422-04:00Oh, and the dude playing Nick the Dick also makes ...Oh, and the dude playing Nick the Dick also makes an appearance in another of my favorite early '80s comedies, NIGHT SHIFT, as the doorman at Joe Spinell's ridiculous club at the end of the film.Ned Merrillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15436251586131278302noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-53274461641772182252013-04-12T09:56:46.231-04:002013-04-12T09:56:46.231-04:00Color me crazy, but I've always found Hanks pr...Color me crazy, but I've always found Hanks pretty damn FUNNY in this. LOVE, love the lunch scene where he casually mentions adopting a 16 year-old Korean girl. This is one of the great, raunchy comedies of the era, which, yes, to my mind, blows away the "competition" from today (HANGOVER, etc.). Sure, BACHELOR PARTY may have more overtly sexist, racist humor, but, even with that, it never really feels mean spirited, nor do I think the filmmakers or audience take any of it remotely seriously. And, unlike today's "comedies" from the likes of Apatow and Sandler...no poop or fart jokes. Finally, as with most '80s juvenile, sex comedies (and, I say that with love), at least one obnoxious douchebag character winds up naked in public.Ned Merrillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15436251586131278302noreply@blogger.com
