And you're right about the emo-music. Awful. I still think the performances were good and tended to transcend the material, direction, etc.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-72468306262883251872010-03-21T15:45:33.409-04:002010-03-21T15:45:33.409-04:00While I liked some of the performances, I intensel...While I liked some of the performances, I intensely disliked this movie. I found it over-directed and phony, and by the third emo-music montage at the end, I was over it all. It strikes me as a very dishonest film.christiannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-36858826596473298442010-03-19T15:41:03.750-04:002010-03-19T15:41:03.750-04:00le0pard13:

Also, among industry gossipers, apparently Reitman is not very well liked but that may be just plain ol' jealousy.

John:

I dig Clooney and he is well cast in this film and wears the role very well. I was wondering if I would dig this film but I'm glad I saw it after all the hype died down. I will say I like this film very much and thought Clooney fit the role perfectly. It is engaging, with good performances and a timely topic. Certainly, one of the better American films of the year.Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01808503055317962289noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-21424504735946487062010-03-19T12:25:03.006-04:002010-03-19T12:25:03.006-04:00I didn't know about that script credit controv...I didn't know about that script credit controversy. They had a solid script and really hit it out of the park.

I too was surprised that it didn't pick up the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay until I read about the controversy over Reitman trying to get more credit for writing it and effectively leaving the other guy out in the cold. I think that might have hurt the film's chances for picking up the award, which, early on, they seemed to have a lock on. Weird.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164105442273577128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5407391624985829089.post-63019812130144566752010-03-18T17:57:13.863-04:002010-03-18T17:57:13.863-04:00Great summary to a very good film, J.D. All of the...Great summary to a very good film, J.D. All of the leads here brought their 'A' games with this film (one of the best I saw last year). Clooney's acting was superb, and as a friend of mine wrote about the film, "... if you didn’t know better, that you’re watching him fall in love with Farmiga right there on screen." Also, I really thought Reitman and his co-writer would pick up Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars, but they were surprisingly shutout. Thanks for this, J.D.le0pard13https://www.blogger.com/profile/09421175808461787862noreply@blogger.com
