Michael Mann Week: Postscript

I just wanted to mention two really fantastic discussions about Michael Mann and his films. One, at The Auteurs features Daniel Kasman, Ryland Walker Knight, and Ignatiy Vishnevetsky conducting an in-depth discussion about Public Enemies. Secondly, over at The House Next Door, Jason Bellamy and Ed Howard have an incredibly in-depth conversation about Mann's feature films. It is very long but well worth reading as they make some excellent points. There is also a really wonderful discussion going at the bottom of this post.

  1. J.D. Kind of you to plug The Conversations piece (fuck, it is long ... but hard to give Mann justice and do it shorter, going film by film; oh well). And good heads-up at The Auteurs. Glad to see more love for The Insider.

  2. It is long but as you say you really couldn't make it shorter and NOT do Mann the proper justice his films deserve. I thoroughly enjoyed your discussion!

  3. Thanks for this. I've made it half-way through the Jason Bellamy/Ed Howard conversation and it's simply a wonderful, thought-provoking discourse on all things Michael Mann. As soon as I'm done with it, I'll be heading over to The Auteurs. This is great stuff!

  4. No probs. Yeah, I'm more than half way their conversation and am really enjoying their thoughts on Mann's films. Even when I am in disagreement (like their assessment of THE INSIDER), I do appreciate the hard work and thought that went into this post.
